about

This is a track I created for a special broadcast on ART x FM for the Louisville celebration of Art's Birthday. The event took place at the 21C Museum in Louisville and then at the ART x FM studio on January 17, 2014.

More info about the event may be found here: www.facebook.com/events/192934640911223/

The event was organized by Douglas Lucas and featured a live broadcast of several local experimental musicians on Sunday evening. Artists featured were: Nathan Hendrickson, Thaniel Ion Lee, Douglas Lucas, Brian Manley, Norman Minogue, Yoko Molotov, Aaron Rosenblum, Scott Scarboro, Jon Silpayamanant, Crank Sturgeon (Maine), Dane Waters, Aaron West, and more.

In 1963, French artist Robert Filliou proposed a public holiday to celebrate the presence of art in our lives. He suggested that 1,000,000 years ago, there was no art. But one day, on the 17th of January to be precise, Art was born. According to Filliou, it happened when someone dropped a dry sponge into a bucket of water.

Filliou’s idea has been taken up by a loose network of artists and friends around the world as an annual celebration of “Art’s Birthday”. Each year the Eternal Network evolves to include new partners celebrating via parties and gatherings, correspondence and mail art, radio and the Internet, and so on.
